A few words about AI
As someone who has dabbled with OpenCV and other computer learning endeavors over the years I have used what is now called "artificial intelligence" since before it became the newest hype cycle for the tech industry.
Who am I ? No one, what contributions have I made < None, not because I couldn't but because right from the start I learned that if people can't make money off of you they just pretend you don't exist. It's very easy to take an idea, change some dates on some posts and a few lines of code and then act like it was their idea. So why give them the opportunity.
Lately as part of the hype it has been said by some high profile individuals that "AI" can "read your mind" , know what you want before you type it etc.. unfortunately they have been misdirected, just like a magician can make someone think they pulled a quarter out of a kids ear it's all smoke and mirrors, made to look to the casual observer like some kind of super power. And since there's a sucker born every minute other high profile individuals are aware of the money that can be made off of suckers so here we are.
When AI is tasked with something it can skim off of wikipedia< biased, or the first few web sites that paid to be at the top of the search results< more bias, it spits out matter of fact results in a condescending tone that would make any tenured college professor gleam with pride at how much smarter they are than the simpletons they are trying to explain complex subject matter to , but when tasked with a simple task outside the box it falls flat on it's face.
And to hide it's shortcomings it has been set up to misdirect the topic by leading you in a direction it is more comfortable with.
The problem isn't "AI" , the current problem is that "AI" is not just being taught by people that have a solid understanding of a subject and are using it as a tool to explore different aspects of the subject to solve a problem, it's also being used by a large percentage of people that just want to make a quick dollar and are vibe coding things left and right in the hopes they can emulate the big software companies cash flow models of paid subscriptions, tokens and what not to make some easy cash off of the hype.
I see a lot of competent people pulling the plug because projects are starting to use AI and they disagree with the direction coding is headed, trust me this is a huge mistake because when the people that know what they are doing and work toward making improvements step aside, the people that are just there to make a buck fill the void and this continues the cycle of AI not learning skills that will make it a powerful tool that openly benefits us all, but a tool for the people that manipulate and misdirect.
